Sometimes the path walked upon is not as Robert Frost spoke of, but of a third road. A road not chosen but delivered upon us by fate. The dialog of my art is communicating the past, present and future of the essence of women and men who have experienced trauma.

The paintings’ mental condition exudes the need to escape from confusion. There is an antagonist and protagonist relationship within. The backgrounds are usually the antagonist, so overpowering to the figures that they are seemingly incapacitated. The protagonist works so hard to escape, strive to go somewhere else, but the antagonist is always creeping into the space, stopping them. Those who remain reflect different moments in time with altered emotions and phantasmagorias. What is real and what is perception? Are they the same?

Capturing an emotional space through pure intuition and materiality of paint texture creates an immediate connection to the viewer. The surface structure translates an image that subliminally exists in my subconscious. There are moments of juxtaposition between thick and thin texture that conveys the tensions of limited morality and existence. I create a conversation of fractured reality where the viewer contrives an awareness of the painting.
